Safe
Station, our teen runaway and homeless "home away
from home" is a 24-hour shelter that provides a safe
place off the street for teens in crisis. Teens receive
individual and group counseling as well as referral assistance
for family therapy. Many teens we see are victims of physical,
sexual or emotional abuse.
Our goals
are to provide a safe place, off the streets, for teens
in crisis and to reunite families when possible.
Safe Station
is open to any young person 12 through 17 years of age.
We accept youth who have run away from home, have been pushed
out of their home, or are in a crisis that creates a need
for shelter.
While in residence,
young people are taught decision-making skills to learn
how to face and overcome difficult situations. Families
are encouraged to participate in exploring alternative methods
for coping and for solving problems.
Also operating
from Safe Station is Safe Place, an initiative that
educates young people about the dangers of trying to resolve
difficult, threatening situations on their own. The project
created a network of Safe Place sites around the community
where help can easily be found.
